Lagers tend to be more popular and more available because they are cheaper. Lager originally originated in Central Europe, and is made with bottom fermenting yeast. Lagers tend to have more of a "kick" to it. More like a soda then an ale would be like.
The most common lager consumed and produced in the world is pilsner. Which is much more carbonated then other beers.
Basically, if you enjoy a more carbonated beer, thats lighter with a more refreshing sense to it. You're in luck because you'll end up with more money in your pocket by choosing the lagers over ales.
